The First ever Rock The Dome event.

I was glad to see SU’s University Union add another show to the annual list of events when they announce “Rock The Dome”. Even more excited that they would bring in 2 Hip Hop Acts (Ludacris & Rick Ross).
It is not a secret that Hip Hop struggles as a whole in the Syracuse Community. That could be argued for most Genres of music that aren’t considered “Rock” Or “Blues”.

I arrived at the Dome well before the event meeting with friends. It was for the most part quiet even though people were trickling in my friend pointed out that no alcohol was being sold at the dome.
Rick Ross opened the show up! I thought his performance was going very well but I felt a little over halfway through his momentum dropped off a little. The thing that stood out about Rick Ross to me the most was that about a rough 90 percent of his performance was done with songs where he collaborated with other artists on. Just something I picked up on.

Ludacris performed second. After his DJ came out to start warming up the set you could hear Ludacris talking to the crowd but you couldn’t see him. I thought that was really unique as he “hyped” up the crowd. Then the concert promoters came onto the stage to do some promo for upcoming events. The audience didn’t really seem happy with the timing. After that Ludacris pretty much stole show

The race that was supposed to start Sunday afternoon, then Noon Monday, then 7pm Monday Night, due to rain. Another temporary postponement occurred. Multiple media outlets are reporting that Brad Keselowski gained 100,000 followers last night during the Daytona 500 by tweeting from inside his race car.

No he was not going 190-200 MPH when tweeting but during a Red Flag (Stoppage of Race). This was caused when a race car under the yellow flag – “Caution” collided with a Track drying Jet blower truck. Video: causing a huge explosion and fire. An incident that broadcasters said was never seen before. The collision caused the Red flag.

During the red Flag drivers climbed from their cars and were gathering around in groups. Particularly, Brad Keselowski who had his Cellphone out snapping photos left and right. Twitter Photo Feed: Wondering why Brad had a cellphone in the car in the first place.

I didn’t see the TV ratings but I can imagine how many people this prompted to tune into the TV Broadcast. During the race The Daytona 500 worldwide Twitter trends were already happening. But once the Red flag occurred So many different people and Nascar phrases became trending and Keselowski just fueled that fire! No Pun intended. At the same time gaining new followers by the second, which I thought was an unheard of amount, in such a short period of time.

I tuned into the broadcast shortly before this fiery crash occurred and during the red flag. Announcers were joking and saying that Dave Blaney’s team had been getting on his case that he needs to create a twitter account. Dave was leading the race at that moment of the red flag, with 403 Nascar Sprint Cup starts and never won a race, simultaneously a trending topic on Twitter. This was also very significant because this team is a very much underfunded team who gets little press coverage to begin with, was being shown all over the world, both on TV and trending all over social media networks.

Despite the multiple rain delays for the race I think that Nascar and sponsors definitely got their money’s worth just in social media mentions across the world.

So I have 2 questions. Has twitter become the most powerful Social networking tool in the world? Has anyone ever gained that many followers so quickly?
